About the DEET Education Program

The DEET Education Program, sponsored by leading companies that manufacture DEET and market DEET-based repellent products, has conducted public and professional education activities for more than a decade. The primary goal has been to help prevent insect and tick bites and the disease they can spread. The emergence of West Nile virus in this country, and the continued increase people becoming infected with tick-borne illnesses, has elevated the importance of educating Americans about the need for personal protection against mosquitoes and ticks.

Along with this website, the DEET Education Program maintains a toll-free hotline (888-No-Bites or 888-662-4837) and e-mail communications (click here) through which the public and professionals can get individualized answers to questions.

The program provides educational brochures free-of-charge to the public and healthcare professionals. The family version includes tips for parents. Another version is designed for older adults. Both versions are available in Spanish (click here for brochures).

The DEET Education Program operates under the auspices of the Consumer Specialty Products Association, which represents 236 companies engaged in the manufacture, formulation, distribution and sale of hundreds of familiar consumer products, including aerosol products, air care, antimicrobial products, cleaning products, pest management products, industrial and automotive specialty chemicals, and polishes and floor maintenance products.
